Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers became the second and third teams to qualify for the playoffs. Delhi secured the second position on the points table by winning the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore by six wickets. Despite losing the game, RCB qualified for the playoffs as Delhi couldn’t chase the total in 17.3 overs.
Shreyas Iyer won the toss and said that Delhi Capitals will bowl first. Delhi bowlers bowled well in the powerplay by not giving many runs and also by getting the wicket of Josh Philippe. Then, Virat Kohli (29) and Devdutt Padikkal (50) made a good partnership of 57 runs and kept the scoreboard running. Soon, Delhi came back hard and dismissed Kohli, Padikkal and Morris in regular intervals. AB de Villiers (35) tried to hit big in the backend of the innings but failed to do so. Thus, RCB managed to post a total of 152/7 in 20 overs. Anrich Nortje (3/33) got three wickets in the game.
Delhi got an early blow while chasing this total. Prithvi Shaw got out right in the second over of the innings. Then Ajinkya Rahane (60) and Shikhar Dhawan (54) made an 88-run stand for the second wicket and made Delhi’s win a bit easy. In the process, they have also completed their respective half-centuries. Even though they fell in successive intervals, Delhi managed to score the target due to low required rate. Hence, they got a total of 154/4 in 19 overs. Now, Delhi will play Mumbai Indians in the Qualifier 1 and RCB will take on either Sunrisers Hyderabad or Kolkata Knight Riders in Eliminator of the playoffs.
